howdy yall! its your favorite elder snow back at it again with a little life update...

 I'm gonna be honest I don't remember the last time I wrote an email back home...which I'm not sure is a good thing or a bad thing haha. I just am either not motivated or busy to write one but this is a pretty down p-day so I figured I would give it a shot!! so for starters I am still in Dubuque! I'm really really liking this area and all the members and people in it are super cool!!

I am no longer with Elder Caulk and I am training a brand new missionary named Elder Brown! (pics will be included down below) he is a goof ball from st george!! love the guy!!

we are actually having lots of success!! we have a couple of good people being taught and the work is really going forward! 

in other news I bought a guitar but am actually trash but its a work in progress!!! I love you all and I hope you guys are doing well please email me! I will do my best to get back to you but it might take a couple weeks!!

 Friends and Family,

Well hello!!! It's been a minute my friends and family... Sorry I have been so trash at writing emails....its just weird when Nothing really changes at all in your life.

I'm still here in Dubuque!! Still trying to find more people to teach!!! Life is kinda hard right now as a missionary. We are still super limited to what we can do. And it doesn't help that I'm learning a ton of patience with my Companion. And on top of that...we are now sharing a car with 2 companionship's. So that's 6 elders to one car, that only seats 5 people. So one of us gets the short end of the stick a lot. But as John Mayer says "thing don't always go the way it should, but I know the heart of life is good" and that's one thing that I have really been learning lately. Regardless of our circumstances, we can just still find joy in the things that mean the most to us... 

I just thought I'd give an update on how I am doing! I hope you are all doing well! If you feel so inclined to reach out please do! I love hearing from you guys!!!

Because of  COVID-19 his days run together and as they are in their apartment a lot, he is struggling writing up emails that he thinks are interesting.  he does however love getting emails, so send away.  mccormick.snow@missionary.org

The weekly. Ya know I'm trying make these as exciting as possible. But to no avail....

Monday: Monday was actually sick! We got to go to the Field of Dreams!! It lost a little magic becasue the corn wasn't in season. But still it was epic. I also got to go on the house tour because the lady leading them was a member and hooked all of the missionaries up hard core. 

Tuesday: we got our weekly double meet pizza at papa Murphy's. So that was top notch. Followed up with some member appointments!

Wednesday: we grinded and found 3 new people!! It was a huge blessing! 

Thursday: uhh to be honest... I don't remember. It was good tho! Plus 2 more npbt (new people being taught)

Friday: got to do some service for a part member family the other elders are teaching. So that felt good to get out of the house high key 

 

Saturday: we went and mowed the lawn of the most savage, kinda grody dude. Named Flying Bryan Tripp. He's an ex motocross rider from California. Super nice. They love the elders. But the man needs to lay off the tanning oil.

Sunday: had a solid sacrament meeting. Uhhh. Yeah it think that was about it 

Highlight of this week!

We had a mission goal for each companionship to find at least 1 new person. Which I was kind of bummed about. Because in the states that kind of tough to do. But.... We prayed a lot and worked really hard and found 4! And then 3 more lined up for next week!! Feels good to actually get stuff done.

So here we are. Back at it again. For anyone who didn't know I'm in the Iowa Iowa city mission. Serving in the Dubuque 2nd ward! My companion is named Elder Caulk from Sacramento California, he is a goofy guy but I love him. Haha He is sooo funny and loves to work. So due to the current conditions we are basically only allowed to work through technology. So that includes making funny videos and cool posts to go on our face book page. So that means weekly emails are a little dry if I'm being honest lol. But here we are. I'll just give a little up date about every day. 

Monday: pretty much a regular old p-day! Buzzed my head and grilled some burgers with the district followed by some ball. 

A classic day in Iowa 

Tuesday: hammock naps are the best. I'll just say that. And also so is calling members. And former investigators 

Wednesday: I don't even remember what happened tbh. 

Thursday: see Wednesday 

Friday: had a great lesson with a family in our ward!! They are a sweet young family. They had a good spirit about them and it felt super good to teach. We are trying to contact as many people as possible in a day. And it's paying off. We are having a lesson almost every night

Saturday: uhhh. We made an epic trick shot  video. Cuz.....that's how the quarantined missionaries do. 

Sunday: we had come follow me with a family in our ward. That was super sick!!! Also finally was able to get in touch with our Bishop!! He was super cool and we had a lesson with him that night. We have a good plan now and are feeling a lot better about the potential this area has. 

Over all it was a pretty solid week!!! Lots of ups and downs. But for the most part. We got stuff done!!  Also I'm starting to love Iowa more and more. Its low-key and so beautiful. Pics to come hopefully!

05/26/2020 New Assignment

Friends and Family,  as many of you know McCormick returned home from the Philippines on March 22nd.  We were able to spend two months mid-mission with him as he prepared for a new assignment.  The new assignment finally came and he was to serve in the Iowa City, Iowa mission.  He left Phoenix on May 20th to begin this new opportunity.  He was really excited to get back out to the mission field.  He is figuring out the new mission and the different ways to do missionary work in the new area and under the restrictions COVID-19. He sent over some great pictures, which I have included here:

This week was an interesting week!!! lots of good things this week! we are starting to shift the focus from finding onto following up and teaching, and it's exciting to start to see the teaching pool take shape...

On a sad note, we had to drop one of our investigators, Bobby and Marilyn, they just really stopped progressing and wouldn't keep their commitments. This was the first time that I actually had to drop someone and it broke my heart... it was so hard because we could see the light in their eyes and see the changes in their lives when we were there, and it's so so so obvious that the gospel could help them so much in their lives...but like our mission president said we have done our part, we did our purpose and invited them to come unto Christ, and now the choice is theirs.

In better news!! we found a ton people this week that I feel really really good about them.  There is always a feeling that I get when I meet someone who has potential, I'm not sure what it is but it just get's really easy to talk to them. Almost like I have known them before... but anyways I felt that a lot this week, and it made me excited to go and follow up with them...

We also went and bought all of our emergency supplies this week so that was an adventure. we ended up having to wait in line at the store for 4 hours, so that was hard. I'm discovering something about my self that I never knew before, but I realized that I hate wasting time... so that was hard... but hahah gotta love all the memories..

another high of this week was zone conference!!! , I found answers to many of my questions.

I'm looking forward to this week and I hope the virus won't get in the way of the work!

This week was a great week!!!! we had our first two people at sacrament meeting in 8 weeks!! we know that there is room for improvement but it just felt so good to have some sign of progress in our area!!

We had lots of good finding opportunities this week and found a lot of people with promise...we have been working really hard this week and putting a lot of faith in the Lord... and we have finally found our name for our person to be baptized this transfer. His name is Nory and he is a really bright 17 year old... and he really sees that he needs the Lords help and hand in his life and I am so grateful for him and the chance we have to teach him.

It's super inspiring to see the hand of the Lord in our life,  in guiding us to the people who are prepared.

We were also able to teach some really good lessons to some people and it's so amazing to feel my testimony grow more every time we teach about the restoration. Right now I am restarting the Book of Mormon in my personal study and it is always a treat to read. I'm so grateful for the Book of Mormon and its effect on my life

wow this week was definitely full of its ups and downs

Adjusting to a new area is definitely a struggle, and a new companion always changes things up. and it’s just interesting to see the different ways that people like to do missionary work. still working with Elder Blad has been a privilege and I am learning a ton from him...

As far as the work goes here in San Fernando, it’s a struggle, we haven’t had a PSM (People at Sacrament Meeting) in over 7 weeks.  It’s so different working here, in Agoo we started from scratch, and when I left it was progressing so much, and here we are kind of back to scratch, but its ok!! We are finding a ton of really cool people and I am excited to follow up with all of them.

Other than that I’m learning a lot about patience this week and as well as learning how to love. I’m excited to keep trying to love this area and how to be patient. The people in this area are so nice and I’m excited to continue working here.

This area needs missionaries who are keen to work hard, and I’m just trying to keep mine and Elder Blad’s fire going and work our bums off and find the person for Elder Bald and I to lead into the waters of baptism this transfer.

well well!!! my first area in the books. it was one heck of a ride and it about broke my heart 
to have to say good bye to the people. I’m gonna be honest president, I didn’t know that
I could come to love a people so much...but I’m happy on the note I left on. I just hope 
I was able to show that to them with my service

but on a better note. I got to San Fernando safe and sound and got set up with Elder Blad. 
The guy seems like the man!!! he is so cool. and upon arriving at the computer shop we 
figured out that we were actually in the same ward when we were kids. and my parents 
taught him primary!!! small world especially in the mission.

one of the high lights this week was that Queenies mom came to church!!! for the first time!! 
it was so so amazing to watch her face as she felt the spirit... I was so glad I got to see it 
before I transferred.   Also we got to do lots of service this week!!! it was a blast!!!  it really 
helps all the people involved.  The person serving and the person being served  feel the 
love of Christ. It’s a beautiful thing...

in terms of this next transfer I’m am looking forward to learning a lot with Elder Blad 
and hoping I can be a good instrument in the Lords hands.
